Plasma Televisions

Welcome to the Plasma Televisions page, this is our guide to buying a plasma TV online in the UK. This covers all kinds of plasma screen televisions in all sizes such as 32, 37, 42, 50 and even bigger screens, we also cover all of the brands such as Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Hitachi and LG.

Plasma televisions are the future of televisions, along with LCD televisions plasma screens are very thin and are totally flat. This means that you can place a plasma TV in locations that a normal television just would not fit, normal CRT televisions have large, bulky backs and the bigger the screen gets the bigger the back also gets. With plasma screens the back does not get bigger so you can place a large plasma screen in tight locations, you can even hang a plasma TV on the wall with a suitable wall bracket. LCD screens are similar to plasma screens but the main difference is that LCD is not designed for the very large screens, an LCD screen can go up to about 25 inches without losing quality. Plasma screens however can go much larger, you can get plasma screens that are over 60 inches and they have perfect picture quality, the most popular sizes are 32, 37, 42 and 50 inches. So if you want a small screen then LCD is better as it is cheaper, if you want a large screen though go for plasma as it has better quality at larger sizes.

Plasma screens used to be very expensive but the prices are dropping all of the time so finding a cheap plasma TV is very possible, having a look around the shops and trying to find a cheap special offer is the best way of getting a cheap plasma TV. There are many brands that offer plasma televisions, these include Hitachi, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Pioneer and LG.

There are several other advantages with plasma screens other than the slim design and size of the screens, for example they have a large viewing angle so that anyone will be able to view the screen in a room, no matter where they are sat. Also as the plasma screen is flat it will not reflect light like normal televisions so they perform better in bright conditions. There are also no scanning lines, this means that you will get a flicker free picture and a sharp, clear picture.

There is a standard with televisions called High Definition (HD) which stipulates that a television has a high resolution and therefore a very good picture quality. To view the high definition quality you have to be watching an HD source but the quality is breath-taking, HD has a clarity that is alomost like watching the event live. So look for a plasma television that is HD ready and it will be able to display and HD content that you may have or will receive in the future and you will be sure of crystal clear quality on your plasma screen.

The main thing to look for when buying a flat screen plasma television is the picture quality, there are a few different aspects of a plasma screen that affect it’s quality. The first is the screen resolution, this is normally stated in pixels and tells you how many pixels the screen has, normally the more pixels a plasma screen has the sharper the picture will be. The other thing to look out for is the contrast ratio and brightness, this is the measurement of the difference in light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black, the higher the contrast ratio, the sharper the picture will be.

There are a few things that you need to keep in mind when purchasing a plasma television, the first is the tuner box. The tuner box allows you to watch normal television, some plasma televisions come with a standard tuner box and some come with a digital tuner box, the problem is that some don’t come with a tuner box at all so make sure you check that the model you want has one if you need one. The digital tuner box is the best as it allows you access to many more channels, all free of charge using the Freeview service.

Another feature that varies is the speakers, some have stereo speakers and some have virtual surround sound included, as with the tuner box though some models do not have any speakers at all so will need to be connected to some audio equipment, again make sure that you check the features of the plasma TV that you are interested in.

The other feature to look out for is the stand, some models come with a stand but others do not, if the plasma TV does not come with a stand then you will have to buy one or get a wall bracket, wall brackets are excellent as they allow you to hang the plasma television on the wall like a picture.

So there are a few things to look out for when buying a plasma TV, firstly have a look at the picture quality aspects such as the resolution and the contrast ratio and brightness. Also check if you will have to buy any extras such as stands, speakers or tuner boxes, these can be quite expensive so getting them included in the package will save you money. Then there is the screen size, the most popular sizes are 32, 37, 42 and 50 inches with 42 being the most popular, there is quite a difference in price though between the sizes so it’s worth deciding if you need one of the larger screens, for example the difference between a 32 and 42 inch screen could be allot.

If you are looking for a cheap deal with plasma televisions then it’s best to have a shop around the main electronics shops (see the links at the top of the page), most of the shops have some cheap special offers which should make it fairly easy to find a cheap plasma TV. There are lots of manufacturers that make plasma screens, these are Philips, Sony, Pioneer, Hitachi, Panasonic, and LG with Sony, Pioneer, Philips and Panasonic being the most popular.
