Welcome to the Shopping Guide, here we have a page that outlines the basics of online shopping so that after reading you should be able to purchase items online. Shopping online is not that difficult and can save you allot of time, it's allot quicker than going to the shops that's for sure! The shopping is also usually cheaper online as the onhline shops have very cheap prices.

The first thing that you will need when shopping online is a payment method, the best choice for this is a debit card or if you do not have a debit card then a credit card, debit cards are better because you do not have to pay any fee's or interest, that's obviously assuming that you have the money in your bank account to cover the purchase. It is also possible to pay by other means but they are the most popular, some shops do give the option to pay by cheque.

The basic principle behind online shops is that they are just like a normal shop, but virtual. You can browse around an online shop just as you can a normal shop, online shops are usually organised into categories, just like normal shops group their products into aisles. Web sites will typically have a menu that has all of the product categories in it, all you do is click on the product group that interests you and you will get a page with those products.

Online shops nearly always have a virtual shopping basket, often called a shopping cart. This is where you place items that you wish to purchase, you can imagine it like in a normal shop you may have a trolley with products inside it as you continue to browse, it's exactly the same with online shops. You can see what's in your basket by clicking on the shopping basket link (they may give it another name but it will be similar) and sometimes you can see what's in your basket on every page plus the total you have spent so far, this is another area where online shopping is better than normal shopping as it's easy to keep track of what you spend.

So when you have finished shopping and your virtual trolley is full you then have to go to the virtual checkout, there is normally a link called checkout either on the shopping trolley page or on every page. The virtual checkout is just like a normal checkout, you have to pay for your goods. This is an easy process and will normally only take a couple of minutes, the first thing you normally have to do is enter your address so that they can deliver your goods. Sometimes shops offer a few different delivery options so you will have to choose the one that suits you best, some shops even go to the level of letting you choose which day you would like the shopping delivered (Argos do this).

Normally the last thing to do is enter your payment information, this is sometimes on the same page as the delivery information but is usually on a separate page. All you have to do is enter the information exactly as it is on your debit or credit card, your card should have all of the information that the web page asks for. Once you have filled in all of this information there will be a confirmation button, it could say Pay, Finnish, Buy or anything else that essentially means the same thing. Once you are sure all of your information is correct then you simply click this and your order is processed, you will get a confirmation page detailing how the transaction went and whether your card was successfully billed or not. If it was then well done, you have just done some online shopping and can wait for your products to arrive, if not then you may want to check that your details were correct and that you have sufficient funds available.

Some shops do better online ordering systems than others, for example Amazon has an excellent system where they store all of your details and then when you wish to purchase something if you are signed into the Amazon web site you can purchase items just by clicking on one button, they then use your stored details and process the order. In our opinion this is one of the best available and we use it all the time, it's possible to purchase an item in seconds doing this.
